Essence China is an accomplished entrepreneur and educator. She is most notably known for her victory in the case Essence Farmer vs. the State Board of Cosmetology in Arizona, where she challenged the State Board concerning their regulations on Natural hair stylist. Her victory opened the doors for all natural hair stylist to be able to operate without the regulations of the cosmetology board. Upon this great undertaking, she opened her first salon, Rare Essence Studio in 2006. She later founded Rare Essence Academy in 2013 where she teaches individuals (on and offline) across the globe how to style natural hair and become successful. As a hair stylist and salon owner Essence has had the privileged of being featured in, and on the cover of Essence magazine and countless other international publications. Her signature work is also featured in the National Museum of African American History & Culture, in Washington DC. Essence vision is to educate and empower women through her story as a speaker and educator.
